ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY APPROACH
As Abdi İbrahim, we shape our environmental strategy in line with the prioritization analysis and the Organizational Life Cycle Analysis (O-LCA) aside from the European Green Deal and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our Environmental Group, a body of seven managers from various departments, works on legal compliance, environmental risk, the assessment of opportunities, suggestions and projects, naming the eco-friendly employee of the month, and conducting field audits. Through monthly meetings it monitors the Environmental Management System’s performance and proceeds with required updates. Additionally, the Environmental Management System is overseen every other six months by a group comprised of the General Manager, Directors, Managers, and Environmental Management Representative.
We fully deliver on our legal responsibilities and also design our environmental policy in light of the environmental views and expectations of our stakeholders, namely our employees, customers, suppliers, subcontractors and partners; we get useful results from environmental impact control, goal setting and program development efforts within the framework of the Environmental Aspect Assessment Procedure. We employ 45 environmental aspect analyses encompassing R&D, production and warehouse activities, sites, and subcontractor activities and facilities. Moreover, we periodically monitor environmental impacts as part of waste management, monitoring and measurement, emergencies, procedures, and our Environment Group then addresses the identified problems and risks by developing programmes and setting the goals to focus on.
ENVIRONMENTAL TRAININGS
As regards the continuous development principle, our focus is on raising our environmental standards. Accordingly, we periodically hold training programmes that address standard practices in facilities, procedures, waste management, recycling and conscious consumption. The Environmental Management System trainings, offer our employees an average of 2 hours of awareness-raising sessions each year.

We attach utmost importance to keeping environmental trainings up-to-date, and stakeholder engagement. We encourage the personnel’s environmental efforts by recognizing the “Eco-friendly Employee of the Month”. In addition, we carry out the Environmental Training Volunteer Project, designed to provide awareness and information to the personnel and their families. At regular awareness-raising seminars, we offer training on how to economize in daily life and engage in eco-friendly practices. The training sessions raise awareness on business processes as well as any life-related processes in which the individual is involved, helping mainstream the global citizenship mindset.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REDUCTION EFFORTS
We closely follow the international anti-global warming endeavours, and maintain environmental protection investments and environmental impact reduction projects on a regular basis. Our use of water, natural gas and energy, all relevant to the environmental aspect and impact of our activities, is shaped by the annual targets and projects laid out in the Abdi İbrahim Management Programme. We also make projects based on our employees’ suggestions, reducing waste and the use of natural resources for continuous saving.

We update respective practices according to the Waste Management Procedure and Zero Waste Regulations, and sort all the waste from our operations at source. The packaging for the marketed products, on the other hand, is recycled in line with the goals set in the Packaging Waste Control Regulations under the Environmental Legislation. We monitor the amount of waste per unit package and the use of natural resources and share the results with our entire staff.

ACTIVITIES AND NEWS
Abdi İbrahim makes a move in renewable energy
On January 1, 2020, we took one of our most substantial steps toward implementing our sustainability-based approach. From that time forward, we have been meeting the electricity needs of all our production facilities at our Esenyurt/Istanbul Production Complex through solar and wind energy plants, becoming the first pharmaceutical company in Turkey to make the transition to utilizing 100 percent renewable energy. The consumption of energy at our production complex in 2020, generated from renewable energy resources, was 44,209,606 kilowatts/hour, an amount equal to the yearly electricity consumption of 26,000 households, By effecting this change, we achieved a reduction in carbon emissions equal to the emissions produced by 5,230 vehicles in a year. We were consequently able to reduce our carbon footprint by an amount equal to approximately 24,000 tons of CO2. Our target is to gradually complete the transition to renewable energy in all our processes by 2030, with the goal of ultimately bringing our carbon footprint down to zero.
We achieved global success in climate change management
With a performance above the global average of the Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals industry category, we have been recognized as a B- list company by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the world’s top environmental NGO that fights against climate change and for conservation of natural resources.
For the first time in 2020, we reported our climate change management as well as water management accomplishments as part of the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Climate Change and Water Security Programmes. We are extremely proud to earn a place in the B- list by outperforming the global and European average score in the Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals industry category. This marks a significant accomplishment in the Carbon Disclosure Project, a platform harbouring near 10,000 companies worldwide and the largest environmental data in the world. As a first-time applicant, we have managed to get graded, outperforming 95 of 129 applicants in Turkey, most of whom had 5 to 10 years' experience in this aspect. We have room for improvement in both categories. Our ultimate goal is to make it to the A-list companies.

We are the first Turkish company signatory to the Recover Better statement
We take great pride in our strong commitment to incorporating sustainability, an approach once again embraced during the COVID-19 pandemic era, in our work and in becoming the first Turkish signatory party to the “Recover Better” statement alongside other 154 global companies.
As human mobility decreased in the COVID-19 era, climate change has recovered considerably. The Recover Better statement; is a joint commitment led by the United Nations and the Science Based Targets Initiative to sustain this recovery by expediting the transition to low carbon economy, focusing on limiting global warming to 1,5 °C and addressing sustainability at every step of public policy making. Many companies worldwide assume responsibility to meet these goals. In yet another ground-breaking move in Turkey, Abdi İbrahim has become Turkey’s first and only signatory to this initiative.
We are the first Turkish pharmaceutical company to have signed the CEO Water Mandate Statement
In what may be considered as a leap forward towards healing the world and the future, we have become a signatory party to CEO Water Mandate, an initiative under UN Global Compact. We are delighted to be the first Turkish pharma company to have signed this initiative.
Sustaining water, an indispensable natural source for every living creature, has become a chief responsibility for companies. It falls upon all of us to conserve water for it is one of the most precious heritages we can pass down to the future generations. At Abdi İbrahim, we act on this awareness and embrace a holistic strategy. In parallel to our responsible stance on water efficiency, we are proud to be the first Turkish pharmaceutical company to sign the CEO Water Mandate, a United Nations Global Compact initiative. In another trailblazing role in the pharmaceutical industry, we promote sustainable water policies and practices with a commitment on a global scale.
We have become a signatory to the Science Based Targets initiative
We have expanded our sustainability efforts and joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), becoming the first signatory from the Turkish pharmaceutical industry. The initiative will see us set goals for creating a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
